After Care

Skin Peels, and Resurfacing Treatments

Use the following guidelines until your skin has resolved its healing process (approximately 7-10 days). For a more sensitive skin or after a more intense treatment, consider following these guidelines for 10-14 days.

It is not unusual for your skin to feel tight and more sensitive than usual, or to appear flaky, dry and in some cases oily. If you are unsure at any point after a treatment, please speak to your skin health expert.

  • Immediately following treatment – apply a broad spectrum physical (not chemical) sunscreen (minimum SPF30) such as Dermalogica Super Sensitive Shield SPF30 or Medik8 Physical sunscreen SPF30. Avoid direct daylight exposure for 2-3 weeks and wear a 3 inch wide brim hat if going into the sun is unavoidable. Ensure any sunglasses worn have proven UV protection (not basic fashion sunglasses) and you may wish to consider using a sun scarf over your neck and shoulders. Direct sun exposure must be avoided to prevent hyperpigmentation.
  • On the day of treatment – avoid strenuous exercise or prolonged exposure to heat sources such as dry saunas and steam rooms. Increased blood circulation to the face will create an increased warming effect which could lead to discomfort (prickling, itching etc), redness, swelling, inflammation or other side effects.
  • On the night of treatment – rinse your face with cool water and a gentle cleanser such as Dermalogica UltraCalming or Medik8 gentle Cleanser, then moisturise skin with a barrier-protecting moisturiser such as Barrier Repair or medik8?
  • Increase your fluid intake for 2-3 days.
  • You will likely begin peeling within 2-3 days. This is normal. DO NOT pick or peel loose skin. This may cause discolouration.
  • Avoid using any type of exfoliating product on the treated area for 72 hours after treatment or until your skin shows no signs of sensitivity. If skin is no longer sensitive, an advised exfoliator may be used to slough off peeling skin (ask your skin health expert for advice).
  • Continue to moisturise the treated area for the duration of the peeling process. Applying your advised toner, hydrating booster and a slightly thicker moisturiser throughout the day can help maintain hydration levels and decrease the appearance of flaking.

Once peeling and redness subside:

  • Resume a regular and professionally advised daily routine that has been recommended by your skin health expert.

Skin Needling

  • Immediately following treatment – apply a broad spectrum physical (not chemical) sunscreen (minimum SPF30) such as Dermalogica Super Sensitive Shield SPF30 or Medik8 physical SPF30.
  • Avoid using any type of exfoliating product on the treated area for 72 hours after treatment or until your skin shows no signs of sensitivity. If skin is no longer sensitive, an advised exfoliator may be used to slough off peeling skin (ask your skin health expert for advice).

Microblading

Before your treatment:

Prior to your permanent cosmetic enhancement think about the look that you wish to achieve. As experts in the field of colour analysis and makeovers, we ensure that the correct colours and styles are chosen for you; however you are part of the decision-making process.

Permanent cosmetic enhancements normally require multiple application sessions. To achieve the best results you will be required to return for at least one control procedure four to six weeks after the initial application.

Be prepared for the colour intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals. This process can take up to fourteen days.

  • Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may be swollen or red, you are advised not to make social plans on the day of your enhancement.
  • Please wear your normal make-up to your enhancement appointment.
  • Do not take aspirin or Ibuprofen 2 days prior to and after your enhancement.
  • Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.
  • Keep alcohol intake to a minimum 2 days prior to and after your enhancement.
  • A sensitivity test will be performed unless waived upon request.
  • Do not use Retin A skincare products close to the enhancement area 1 month prior to and after your procedure.
  • Do not use AHA skincare products close to the enhancement area 2 weeks prior to and after your procedure.
  • As with electrolysis the National Blood Service does not accept donations of blood for 1 year after a permanent cosmetic enhancement.

Eyebrow Enhancement

  • Waxing treatments should be performed no less than 3 days prior to your enhancement.
  • IPL laser hair removal should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your enhancement.
  • Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 5 days prior to your enhancement.
  • Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken for 2 weeks after your enhancement.

After your treatment:

  • The area treated may show redness and swelling and that the colour looks dark and intense – this is quite normal.
  • Additional treatments cannot be undertaken until the area has completely healed. A 4/6 week healing time is required before any more work can be undertaken.
  • In order to let your brows heal well, avoid water on the brow area, make up to the brow area, the gym, sauna or pool for 7 days.
  • Once the area has healed completely, approximately one week, consider using a waterproof total sunblock when going out in the sun to stop the colour fading.
  • Strong chemicals or glycolic acid/peels of any kind may cause the pigment to lighten. Always telephone and check with your consultant if in any doubt.
  • Do not pick or pull at the treated area as it will result in pigment loss. You will go through three healing phases: 1-heal, 2-peel and 3-fade
  • You may notice whiteness or blanching around the area, this is quite normal and will subside within 12 hours. If you find any lymphatic fluid or blood weeping you can gently clean the area with saline, cool boiled water and gauze, blotting gently dry to remove any moisture.
  • With clean hands and a cotton bud apply a fine layer of after care balm to the treated area. Repeat this procedure up to 3 times a day if the area feels tight.

After the fine scabbing has sloughed away you will see a different hue to the colour implanted.

  • Giving Blood – The Red Cross have suggested that you do not give blood for 6 months following treatment.
  • MRI Scans – This procedure shows up as an artifact on the scan. Some clients may experience a tingling sensation. Please notify your radiologist.
  • Injectables – Dermal fillers and Botox can alter the shape of the eyebrows. The client should be advised that injectables should be carried out after a microblading procedure and not prior.
  • Laser /Pulsed Light – Laser or pulsed light hair removal or skin rejuvenation treatments can cause colour change – it is important to advise the therapist that you have had Microblading procedure as this cannot be rectified with another Microblading procedure.
  • Colour Refreshing – To keep your new brows looking at their best it is recommended that you have a colour refresh procedure every 12-18 months.

Waxing

Before your wax:

Make sure your hair is long enough to remove completely from the roots – it should be at least 0.5 centimetres. If you’ve shaved the area within the last few weeks it might take a couple of waxes to get your hair into a cycle of growth that allows the most effective wax finish.

Immediately after your wax:

It’s normal immediately after your wax for a little bit of redness and a prickly heat type rash to appear. This should disappear after a few hours and is normally due to a histamine reaction. Because waxing removes the hair at the root, it’s important that you keep the area clean and bacteria free. This means:

  • No sunbathing for at least 12 hours (have your waxing done at least the day BEFORE you go on holiday)
  • No swimming in a chlorinated pool for 24 hours
  • Same for spa baths or saunas
  • Avoid applying any topical lotions for at least 12 hours (fragrances and other lubricants can cause a burning sensation)
  • Also avoid touching the waxed area to ensure it remains bacteria free
  • Use a tea tree oil based product to apply to the area for it’s anti-bacterial qualities.

3-10 days after waxing:

  • As you skin closes over the follicles, the next consideration is to ensure you prevent ingrown hairs. This is when new, often softer hair can get trapped under the skin. A few simple measures can easily avoid this situation. Here’s where the “do’s” come in:
  • Use a soft brush or exfoliating glove to gently buff the area every 2-3 days – this is particularly important after about day 3 through to about the 10 day mark. It doesn’t need to be hard scrubbing, just a gentle exfoliation.
  • Use a product like dermalogica’s hydrating body cream after showering. This product contains lactic acid which helps ensure dead skin cells are buffed away allowing your hair back through the follicle opening.

Electrolysis

It is important to take extra care of the treated area, especially within the first 48 hours* of treatment. This will give the skin a chance to settle, allow the heat reaction in the skin to return to normal and prevent infection of the treated open follicles.

After treatment you may experience:

  • Redness, swelling and sensitivity of the skin in the area which has been treated up to 48 hours*
  • The treated area and surrounding skin may feel hot for up to 48 hours*
  • Pin dot crusting or small scabs may appear within the treated area
  • The skin may itch as the healing process takes place

Points to remember for 48 hours after treatment:

To prevent irritation and the spread of infection, do not pick spots or small blood scabs which may appear a couple of days after treatment and depending on the skin, may take between 7–21 days to heal. Fine blood scabs are a normal post reaction response to the treatment, especially in the initial stages of having electrolysis. The fine blood scabs develop by the dry cauterized blood in the base of the follicle rising up through the follicle. Do not pick the area at all.

Avoid:

  • Touching the treated area and do not pick any scabs that may form
  • Self tans or fake tans as these can cause irritation to the skin, also avoid perfumes, and perfumed body lotions
  • Direct sunlight, or sun bed treatment. If you must go out in the sun, use a high protection factor sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to avoid hyper pigmentation, especially on yellow based, Black and Asian skin types. Re apply in the middle of the day. UVA and UVB can cause pigmentation marks to appear on the treated area and wearing our SPF 30 will help to reduce this quicker, developing an even skin tone faster.
  • Saunas, solaria, sun beds,  Jacuzzis and steam treatments as these can also cause pigmentation to develop
  • Hot baths, showers
  • Swimming
  • Applying make-up to the treated area.
  • Applying soap or perfumed products to the treated area
  • Activities for 48 hours that stimulate blood flow following treatment

Points to remember whilst having electrolysis

Use of Cleansing:

When washing or cleansing use gentle un perfumed cream cleanser or facial wash, never use soap on the treated area as this will further dry the skin. Gently pat the area dry to avoid dislodging any fine scabs or crusts

Bleaching:

If you would like to bleach the downy hair growth between treatments, do not apply bleach for at least 48 hours after electrolysis.

Re-growth:

Do not pluck, tweeze, thread or remove hair with wax or depilatory cream remover between electrolysis treatments, as this will interrupt the hair growth cycle. It is safer to simply trim any noticeable unwanted hair with scissors

Treatment plan:

Follow your Electrologist’s recommendations for your treatment plan and aftercare

Remember:

Tell your Electrologist about any unusual reactions immediately in order that she may modify your treatment accordingly

THE CLINIC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CLIENT’S SKIN CARE POST ELECTROLYSIS TREATMENT

* NB: For most people, after-effects of the treatment normally clear within 48 hours. However, everyone is different, so please do not be alarmed if it takes a bit longer. If in doubt, please contact us.

Spray Tans

Memphis Belle Beauty provides a range of professional spray tanning products to suit every skin type, and ready for you to use in the comfort of your own home! Whether it’s professional tanning, world class tanning products or advice about our products & application, we’re here to help.

Best results are achieved when you pay extra special attention to the following tips:

  • Wax or shave at least 24 hours before your tan.
  • Exfoliate and moisturise 24-48 hours before your tan.
  • Remove make up, deodorant, any moisturiser, perfume & jewellery before your appointment to save time.
  • Wear loose, dark clothing and open toe shoes straight after to allow the tan to develop evenly.
  • Remember it takes at least 8 hours for sienna tan to develop - so no showering it off before then!
  • As our spray tan is so popular, client appointments are often back to back so we request that you arrive on time, or preferably early for your appointment to ensure you do not miss your slot.

After your tan we recommend you use homecare to prolong the life of your tan.  We stock a wide range of home care and your therapist will happily advise you how to get the best results.

You can be provided with disposable spraytan underwear, it’s up to you whether you use this or just wear your own. We would advise if you are wearing your own don’t wear your best set as it will get marked from the spray tan. We also provide sticky feet to stand on so the soles of your feet are covered and protected from the spray tan. Your therapist will give you some wipes to take off any make up and wash off any deodorant or perfume (if these are left on the tan will go green in that area), she will also apply some barrier cream to elbows, knees nails, and the heels of the foot as these are the areas that excess tan tends to cling. Please advise your spray tan therapist of any other dry areas and she will apply barrier cream.

You will be guided through the positions to stand in as the therapist goes through spray tan, once your tan is complete your tan will be complete dried off using the spray tan hose.

  • As the tan develops you may feel you are going darker than you wanted don’t panic this is just the guide colour it will wash off and come out perfectly.
  • After your tan please leave tan to develop for at least 8 hours.
  • Do not exercise or use a sauna/steam room while your tan develops.
  • Have a shower the next day to lightly wash of the guide tan using a PH balanced shower gel.
  • Do not exfoliate excessively make sure that is it done lightly and evenly and wait 3 days until you exfoliate after your tan
  • Do use moisturiser every day after your tan to help your tan last as long as possible and to ensure an even fade.
  • When you want to remove any last traces of tan the best thing to use is baby oil leave it on for a few hours. Wash off in a fairly warm bath or shower and exfoliate thoroughly.
